What's new for the 2027 Explorer
- The V6 on more trims. Ford lists the 3.0L EcoBoost V6 as standard on the ST and available on the Tremor and Platinum. A new Tremor V6 version adds BlueCruise hands-free highway driving with hands-free lane changes, ambient lighting, an open-on-approach liftgate and driver-seat memory.
- Platinum 3.0L Ultimate Package. Quilted premium leather, Platinum seat badges, quad chrome exhaust tips and 21-in. dark alloy wheels.
- ST Sinister Package. 21-in. gloss black wheels with 275/45R21 all-season tires, amber LED daytime running lamps and a red ST badge outlined in black.
- Roof changes. The fixed-glass panoramic roof is dropped, the power-shade Panoramic Vista Roof continues, and a Slick Roof Conversion option is new on several trims.
- New colors. Avalanche Gray and Ruby Red Metallic Tinted Clearcoat.
2027 Explorer trims
The lineup is Active, ST-Line, ST, Tremor and Platinum. Every trim comes with rear-wheel drive or 4WD except the Tremor, which is 4WD only.
Active and ST-Line
Both use the 2.3L EcoBoost, the engine Ford lists as standard on every 2027 Explorer except the ST.
ST
The 3.0L EcoBoost V6 is standard, and the new Sinister Package dresses it in gloss black 21-in. wheels and amber running lamps.
Tremor
4WD only. Choose the 2.3L or the new V6 version with BlueCruise and extra comfort features.
Platinum
The 2.3L is standard, and the 3.0L V6 with its Ultimate Package of quilted leather and 21-in. dark wheels is available.
Engines, ratings and towing
2.3L EcoBoost I-4
300 hp and 310 lb-ft. Standard on every 2027 Explorer except the ST.
3.0L EcoBoost V6
400 hp and 415 lb-ft. Standard on the ST and available on the Tremor and Platinum. Where the 50-State Emissions System is required, Ford rates it at 385 hp on the Tremor and ST and 383 hp on the Platinum.
Both engines work with a 10-speed automatic, and 4WD models use Ford's Intelligent 4WD.A Class III Trailer Tow Package is standard, and Ford lists towing of up to 5,000 lb for any 2027 Explorer with it.
Technology to ask about
The Ford Digital Experience pairs a 13.2-in. center touchscreen with Google Assistant, Google Maps and Google Play, alongside a 12.3-in. color LCD productivity screen and 5G connectivity. Ford Co-Pilot360 Assist+ driver assistance is standard.
